A Quick Honeymoon for Harris, Now Back to the Trenches

Yes, Kamala Harris made history becoming the first African American and Asian American woman to get the VP nod from a major party. Yes, Kamala Harris is a highly qualified candidate who has received high praise from the Democratic elite. And yes, Kamala Harris is already receiving the vitriolic attacks from her opponents both she and Joe Biden expected, albeit a bit earlier than the pundits predicted. Positives for Ms. Harris ramped up in the run up to Biden's long anticipated announcement, peaking on the day of her selection to an imprsssive 80 percent positive. Given the broad spectrum of opinions in social media, politicians are lucky to get above sea level in positives, which makes social's reaction to the announcement all the more impressive. Women Veep Contenders Rock, But There Are Some Standouts

While the 2020 Presidential race is rightly taking a back seat to our united efforts to quell the coronavirus outbreak, one issue that is still hovering is who would Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee, select as his Vice Presidential candidate. Former Vice President Biden has pledged to select a woman as his VP. Through the lens of the last two weeks, social media is generally very supportive of the rumored short list of VP contenders, however, a few stand out from the field. While Representative Val Demings, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth have some of the highest positive numbers, their volumes are low which does not bode well for voter support. Biden's Bump. Nice While It Lasted

The Dems wrapped up their virtual convention to loud approval from the left and begrudging faint prasie from some on the right. The four day Zoomfest culminated in Joe Biden's speech accepting the nomination to be the Democratic nominee for Presdient. While Biden beat expectations on his own soap box, overall the convention provided a solid boost to the wouldbe Prez. While pollsters have been saying Biden is enjoying a solid and growing lead, Twitter says not so fast. Trump and Biden were trading the lead in Twitter positives for that last few weeks, however, the convention put real daylight in Biden's favor between the two. Starting the week prior to the convention, the two were hovering like electrons around a high density nucleus, however, by the end of the week, Biden broke free and was pulling 75 percent positives in Twitter compared to 43 percent positive for POTUS.
