Women Veep Contenders Rock, But There Are Some Standouts

While the 2020 Presidential race is rightly taking a back seat to our united efforts to quell the coronavirus outbreak, one issue that is still hovering is who would Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee, select as his Vice Presidential candidate. Former Vice President Biden has pledged to select a woman as his VP. Through the lens of the last two weeks, social media is generally very supportive of the rumored short list of VP contenders, however, a few stand out from the field. While Representative Val Demings, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth have some of the highest positive numbers, their volumes are low which does not bode well for voter support. Twitter Pounces on Spring Breakers Putting Partying Over Prevention

Spring break is here and for some college students, nothing, including the global coronavirus pandemic is getting in the way of their vacation plans. There has been a background meme bubbling in social about some coeds going away for spring break despite warnings against travel and close proximity. This meme exploded yesterday when CBS posted interviews with spring breakers in Florida expressing complete disregard for catching coronavirus. As one student stated, “If I get corona, I get corona. At the end of the day, I'm not gonna let it stop me from partying” Twitter hit back hard. Focusing on the students' disregard for spreading the virus to others, especially more vulnerable populations, Twitter is giving these spring breakers a nearly 100% negative reaction to their behavior. Perhaps @BaBaChrisPPB summed up Twitter's reaction best tweeting "If this is the future, we're in deep sh*t." Perhaps spring breakers should heed the cacophony of warning

Yes, Kamala Harris made history becoming the first African American and Asian American woman to get the VP nod from a major party. Yes, Kamala Harris is a highly qualified candidate who has received high praise from the Democratic elite. And yes, Kamala Harris is already receiving the vitriolic attacks from her opponents both she and Joe Biden expected, albeit a bit earlier than the pundits predicted. Positives for Ms. Harris ramped up in the run up to Biden's long anticipated announcement, peaking on the day of her selection to an imprsssive 80 percent positive. Given the broad spectrum of opinions in social media, politicians are lucky to get above sea level in positives, which makes social's reaction to the announcement all the more impressive.
