Twitter Pounces on Spring Breakers Putting Partying Over Prevention

Spring break is here and for some college students, nothing, including the global coronavirus pandemic is getting in the way of their vacation plans. There has been a background meme bubbling in social about some coeds going away for spring break despite warnings against travel and close proximity. This meme exploded yesterday when CBS posted interviews with spring breakers in Florida expressing complete disregard for catching coronavirus. As one student stated, “If I get corona, I get corona. At the end of the day, I'm not gonna let it stop me from partying”

Twitter hit back hard. Focusing on the students' disregard for spreading the virus to others, especially more vulnerable populations, Twitter is giving these spring breakers a nearly 100% negative reaction to their behavior. Perhaps @BaBaChrisPPB summed up Twitter's reaction best tweeting "If this is the future, we're in deep sh*t."

Perhaps spring breakers should heed the cacophony of warnings. As reported in the New York Times the CDC released new findings that as much as 40% of hospitalizations due to COVID-19 are for people aged 20 to 54.
